It’s almost time for the 6th Latin American Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare: In search of the new normal, held by Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein in partnership with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement!
In a completely virtual and innovative format, that will allow for interaction with the greatest international and national experts in the area of healthcare management, quality, care safety and experience in person-centered care.

The forum was built on three pillars: Building the New Era with Value , Primary Care & Population Health and Equity – All current themes that intertwine in the new Healthcare System proposal and address the profound changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The submission of scientific papers on relevant topics will allow for great networking between participants, speakers and presenters. Another highlight is the award of innovative work in each of the tracks.

THE PARTNERSHIP

In 2015, the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein (SBIBAE), a Brazilian healthcare institution with over 60 years of history, and considered a benchmark for excellence in service, humane care, social responsibility, teaching and research, joined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), a non-profit organization based
in the United States and with more than 30 years of experience as a promoter, partner and driver of results in improving health, to launch the 1st Latin American Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare, in which almost 2,000 participants from around the world had the opportunity to participate.

Since 2015, these two organizations have been developing a growing community of professionals committed to improving the quality and safety of healthcare in Latin America. In addition to Brazil, they mobilized people in Latin America, the United States and Europe. Each year, more than 2,000 attendees with different perspectives, from patients and frontline service providers to healthcare provider directors and CEOs, gather at these events.

"Sidney Klajner is a Digestive Surgeon. He holds a degree in Medicine and a Master's degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, medical residency from the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of University of São Paulo (USP), fellow of American College of Surgeons. President of Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Instituto Coalizão Saúde and of the Higher Council of Health Management - managed by the State Secretary of Health of São Paulo, as well as Professor of the Executive MBA in Health Management at Einstein, in the discipline “The Health Market in Brazil and in the World: Structure and strategies”. He is co-author of the book “A Digital Revolution in Health”, a work in which he investigates the impact of new technologies in medicine and in several aspects of health, such as assistance, management, quality and sustainability of the system."

Claudio Lottenberg

Graduated in Medicine, Ophthalmologist with master's and doctorate from Escola Paulista de Medicina, Federal University of São Paulo. He is the author of the books "Brazilian Health Can Work"; "Citizenship - Technology at the Service of the Patient and Not the Contrary" and co-author of the book "The Digital Revolution in Health". He is currently President of the Deliberative Council of the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein, of the Instituto Coalizão Saúde, of Lide Saúde and Vice-President of the Business Leaders . Member of the Superior Health Council of the State of São Paulo and of the Council of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Health of São Paulo. He is a Visiting Professor at Harvard University (USA), a professor of public health policies for the MBA in Health course at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein and a member of the São Paulo Academy of Medicine.

Donald M. Berwick

Donald M. Berwick is one of the leading scholars, teachers, and advocates in the world for the continual improvement of health care systems. He is a pediatrician, and a longstanding member of the faculty of Harvard Medical School. He founded and led the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, now the leading global nonprofit organization in its field. He was appointed by President Obama as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where he served in 2010 and 2011. He has counseled governments, clinical leaders, and executives in dozens of nations. He is an elected Member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Philosophical Society. He has received numerous awards, including the Heinz Award for Public Policy, the Award of Honor of the American Hospital Association, and the Gustav Leinhard Award from the Institute of Medicine. For his work with the British National Health Service, in 2005 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appointed him Honourary Knight Commander of the British Empire, the highest honor awarded by the UK to a non-British subject.

Gary Kaplan

Gary Kaplan, MD, FACP, FACMPE, FACPE, is the cheif executive officer of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and senior vice president of Common Spirit. Dr. Kaplan received a degree in medicine from the University of Michigan and is board certified in internal medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Virginia Mason and served as chief resident in 1980-1981. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and the American College of Physicians Executives, and is recognized as one of the most influential physician executives in healthcare.

Pedro Delgado, MSc, Head of Europe and Latin America Regions, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), has a unique ability to work across cultures, languages, and systems. Luiz Felipe d'Avila is the founder and publisher of VirtuNews, a journalism site based on data and facts. Hannah Ratcliffe

"Hannah Ratcliffe, MSc, is the Associate Director of Research on the Primary Health Care team at Ariadne Labs. In this role, Hannah works across Ariadne’s portfolio of PHC projects, with a focus on developing and implementing novel ways of assessing primary health care system capacity and performance and working with global partners and policymakers in low- and middle-income countries to translate findings into prioritized improvement strategies as part of the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative. Hannah has also worked on projects to better measure PHC facility management and patient experience of care in Ghana, to improve care management for high risk patients in Estonia, and to document lessons learned from PHC success stories around the world. Jennifer Goldsmith joined IHI as a Senior Director on Equity projects in August 2021 after having served for seven years a leader in health equity and global health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Kirsten Meisinger

"Dr. Meisinger has extensive expertise in medical system transformation with a focus on primary care, value-based care and high functioning team development. She has designed, implemented and taught numerous learning collaboratives at the national level in multiple countries. She was National Faculty Co-Chair for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative “Transforming Clinical Practices Initiative” (TCPi), and co-chair of the CMS ICOAG Affinity Group. She is a founding member of the Health Equity Collaborative. Dr. Meisinger was a faculty expert for Australia’s national Health Care Home Initiative, their national program for primary care practice transformation. She is faculty lead in Brazil for the national primary care transformation project to establish the standards for primary care in the private sector and has ongoing projects in Nicaragua, Nepal and Mozambique.

Dr. Meisinger is the former Medical Staff President for the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), a current Regional Medical Director in Primary Care and the CHA Director of Provider Engagement. Manuela Villar Uribe

Manuela Villar Uribe is a Health Specialist of the Health Nutrition and Population Global Practice of the World Bank. Manuela currently works with the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative at the World Bank, supporting countries in their efforts to measure and improve their Primary Health Care systems. For over a decade, Manuela has worked across countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia supporting efforts to improve measurement, monitoring and evaluation of health systems. Manuela has a PhD in Health Systems from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a Master in Public Health degree from Tulane University, in the United States and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and International Development Studies from McGill University, Canada.

Melissa Kwiatkowski

Melissa is a passionate community organizer and social justice advocate. She lives and works in Guelph Ontario and is a partner and mom of 2 girls. Dr. Paulo Borem is Senior Director of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Improvement Advisor and certified as a Patient Safety Officer (PSO) by IHI. Dr. Borem has led 11 large-scale initiatives in Portugal and Brazil. He is also responsible for training courses in the IHI Improvement Model in Portuguese-speaking countries. Dr. Paulo was a vascular surgeon before becoming Senior Director at IHI.

Peter Neumann

Peter J. Neumann, Sc.D., is Director of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health (CEVR) at the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies at Tufts Medical Center, and Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is the founder and director of the Cost-Effectiveness Registry, a comprehensive database of cost-effectiveness analyses in health care.

Priscila Surita

Holds a Masters degree in Consumer Behavior from ESPM (Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing), post- graduate degree in Strategic People Management Model from FIA - USP ((Fundação Instituto de Administração - USP) and a degree in Psychology from Centro Universitário FMU. Has 15 years of experience in Human Resources, working in the areas of Attraction and Selection, Development and Diversity and Inclusion. Raquel Conceição

Raquel has worked as a physician for 20 years in Healthcare Management, with an emphasis in Management check-ups, Corporate health and Population health strategies.
Is responsible for the DFSS projects carried out in the check-up unit, which is a network of Einstein clinics and onsite clinics, as well as the implementation of population health for Einstein employees. She currently leads the team responsible for Corporate operations and Programs, Supplementary health management for Einstein employees, as well as Corporate mental health programs in 8 large companies.
She holds an MBA in Healthcare Services Management and Healthcare Economics and a Fellowship at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, with an emphasis on Population health management, and coordinates a postgraduate course in Corporate Healthcare at Faculdade Einstein.

Renata Gasparello de Almeida

Masters Degree in Production Engineering from Universidade Fluminense Federal (UFF), Post-Graduate degree in Economic and Financial Engineering from UFF and Bachelor in Actuarial Sciences from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Specialist in Supplementary Health Regulation at the ANS (Brazilian National Supplementary Health Agency). Deputy Coordinator at COAEO (Coordination of Evaluation and Encouragement of Qualification and Accreditation of Operators) and at COIME (Coordination of Induction to Improvement of Sectorial Quality), and at the GGEIQ (Department of Incentive to Innovation and Evaluation of Sectoral Quality) - DIDES (Sectoral Development Board). 23 years of professional experience and 7 years as an Actuary in multinational companies in the fields of private pension, capitalization and life insurance. She has been a public servant since 2005, after passing the first ANS entrance exam. She served on the Operators' Standards and Qualification Board and is currently serving on the Sectoral Development Board. She is a member of IBA (Brazilian Institute of Actuaries) and IAP (Institute of Portuguese Actuaries). She was a substitute professor of the Undergraduate Course in Actuarial Sciences at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and is currently a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education and Technology Research (IPETEC, in Portuguese) at Universidade Católica de Petrópolis - UCP.

Ricardo Salem Ribeiro

Physician, holds a degree from Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), worked as a general surgeon for 7 years, in addition to developing a solid career in large and important companies in the health sector. Has served at Care Plus for 9 years, and currently holds the position of Executive Director, being responsible for ensuring that the best clinical practices are offered to the company's beneficiaries and clients, in addition to leading the growth in new businesses for the dentistry and occupational medicine branches.

Rogeria Leoni Cruz

Legal Affairs Director and Data Protection Officer. Member of the Ethics and Research Committee at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Coordinator of the Anahp and Abramed Data Protection Group.

Santiago Nariño

Santiago Nariño is a community organizer, concept visualizer, leadership and life coach and political strategist, whose work has focused on bringing relationship-centered organizing models to the creation of movements, healthcare and campaigns. He serves as a relational and strategy coach for teams to build equity centered multi-disciplinary teams that deliver results in improvement initiatives. Santi has experience with large scale public and private improvement collaboratives for Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Latin America in health and healthcare, political campaigns in Massachusetts, advocacy campaigns across the U.S and building and coaching organizations on anti-racism in non-profits, campaigns and organizations. He is currently the specialist in diversity and inclusion at Hospital Albert Einstein.

Sara Cerdas

Sara Cerdas, 32, is a doctor and has been a Member of the European Parliament since July 2019. He is a member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee and a substitute member of the Transport and Tourism Committee. He is also Vice-President of the Special Committee to Fight Cancer. She was Shadow Rapporteur for the S&D Group of the European Health Program “EU4Health” and Shadow Rapporteur for the S&D Group on the new regulation on serious cross-border threats to health.
Sara co-chairs the European Parliament's Health Working Group, which addresses various health topics with experts and partners.
She holds a Masters in Medicine from the University of Lisbon, a Masters in Public Health from the University of Umeå and is a PhD candidate in Public Health Sciences from the University of Stockholm.

Shannon Welch

Shannon Welch, MPH, is a Senior Director for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Her fifteen years of experience working in public health drives her passion and commitment to equity-focused work. Shannon’s current portfolio of projects includes work on equity and population health initiatives.

Thais Galoppini Felix

She is a Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist trained at Instituto Dante Pazzanese de Cardiologia in the State of São Paulo; has training in Quality Management in Health Services from the Faculdade Albert Einstein, has completed a Fellowship in Patient Safety at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). She is a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma methodology and is an Improvement Advisor (IA) trained by the IHI. Holds an MBA in Project Management by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and a Certificate in Excellence and Performance in Project Management from Einstein and Université de Paris.
Currently serves as a Quality and Patient Safety Consultant at the Einstein Excellence Office, at Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein (SBIBAE).

Vanessa Teich

She is a Production Engineer with a degree from UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), and holds a master's degree in Economic Evaluations for the Evaluation of Healthcare Technologies from the University of York (England). She worked for 13 years as a consultant in the area of healthcare economics and currently holds the position of Superintendent of Healthcare Economics at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE).

Vibeke Rischel

"Vibeke Rischel, Deputy CEO,
RN, BA, MHSc, Improvement Advisor and Coach, IHI Fellow.
Vibeke has been with the Danish Society for Patient Safety (PS!) since 2007, as a leader of the portfolio of improvement and capacity building programs in PS! The improvements programs in hospitals and communities across Denmark has resulted in improved patient safety and reduction in harm, especially the elimination of pressure ulcers is international recognized. Furthermore, the program has influenced the quality agenda in Denmark and given inspiration to the current National Quality Program. In partnership with Norwegian colleagues Vibeke has developed a Scandinavian Improvement Advisor program and serves as faculty international.
Vibeke is an international acknowledge expert in patient safety and health care improvement and serve on several advisory boards in Denmark. Vibeke has more than 30 years of experience in health care with a professional background in nursing."

Viviane Miranda

Director of Risk, Audit and Compliance at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Before that, she was Director of Audit and Risk at the company Telefônica Vivo, where she worked for more than 10 years. Bachelor's Degree in Administration from UFF (Universidade Federal Fluminense), with an Executive MBA from COPPEAD-UFRJ. She is Coordinator of the Ethics and Compliance in Health postgraduate course at the Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa Albert Einstein (Albert Einstein Institute of Education and Research).

Youri Eliphas de Almeida

Master's degree in Health Sciences from the Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa (Israeli Institute of Teaching and Research) at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE).
